The iPod nano was introduced as the replacement of the iPod mini at the end of 2005. It is available with 1GB to 16GB flash memory. It uses the integrated circuits, custom developed chips & Portable Player PP5021C with dual embedded 80MHz ARM 7TDMI processors. It is available in multiple colors (silver, green, pink, blue, red and black). It is also available in many designs based on its flash memory. The screen display, its size, weight, screen resolution varies depending upon its design. Totally 5 models are available for iPod nano. Its basic features vary from one model to another. Every model of iPod nano was upgraded according to user’s choice.
The 1st model of the nano was 40 millimeters (1.6 in) wide, 90 millimeters (3.5 in) long, 6.9 millimeters (0.27in) thick and weighs 42 grams. It has a battery life of 14 hours. The specialty of iPod nano model 2, 3, 4& 5 is they are scratch resistant.
The iPod nano model 3rd i.e. 8GB model has features like browsing via cover flow & have an aluminum front plate and a stainless steel back plate. The nano also sported a new minimalistic hold switch.
The iPod nano model 4th has curved aluminum shell and glass screen and has a battery life of 24 hours of music playback & only 4 hours of video playback. It measures 90.7 millimeters (3.57 in) tall by 38.7 millimeters (1.52 in) wide by 6.2 millimeters (0.24 in) thick and weighs 36.8 grams. It contains arsenic-free glass and a BFR, mercury, and PVC free design. So it was considered as environment friendly as it was highly recyclable.
The 5th model of it has 55.8 millimeters (2.20 in) diagonal screen. It has features like integrated video camera with special effects, microphone, FM Radio with iTunes tagging. It also includes Live Pause, a built in pedometer, Nike+iPod support and speaker.So the iPod nano has the basic features that a user wants.
